📜 The Origin of the “Sgian Dubh”
The term Sgian Dubh (Gaelic for “Black Knife”) is believed to come from its dark appearance — early handles were hand-carved from black bog wood, and blades darkened with use and age.
Another tradition suggests the name reflects its hidden nature. Worn today in the top of the Highland stocking, it remains a symbol of friendship and trust, showing that the wearer carries no ill intent.
⚠️ Please note: The Sgian Dubh is a ceremonial accessory and not a weapon.
