🛡 Design & Craftsmanship

This traditional Scottish black-handled knife is beautifully mounted with your Clan crest, available in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver. Each crest is exquisitely detailed and encircled by a traditional belt and buckle design, inscribed with your Clan motto in raised relief lettering — symbolizing centuries of loyalty and identity.

Expertly designed, the handle and sheath are crafted from durable resin with nickel silver plated fittings, while the blade is stainless steel for long-lasting beauty and strength. The top is adorned with a stunning imitation glass gemstone — choose from blue sapphire, emerald green, or purple amethyst when ordering.

📜 The Origin of the Sgian Dubh

The name Sgian Dubh (Gaelic for Black Knife) is believed to stem from its dark appearance — the early handles were carved from black bog wood, and the blades darkened with age. Another theory suggests its “dark” name arose from the weapon’s once-concealed nature. Over time, it became customary to wear the Sgian Dubh visibly in the top of the stocking — a sign of friendship and honesty, showing one’s hands were free of concealed weapons.

The Sgian Dubh is not and should not be considered a weapon, but rather a symbol of honor, heritage, and tradition.
