SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
This exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife with a striking black handle, is available featuring your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or premium sterling silver.
Measuring 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, this brand new Sgian Dubh boasts a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The top is adorned with a choice of synthetic stones in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.
The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a meticulously designed belt and buckle motif, which showcases your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, Clan chiefs would present their crest to clansmen as a mark of loyalty and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Please be aware that this item is made to order and typically takes just a few days to complete. We offer designs for every Clan. To personalize your order, simply include your Clan name in the comments section during checkout. While this Sgian Dubh is thoughtfully crafted, the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. For reference, a traditional Sgian Dubh with solid silver fittings typically retails for over $1,000.00, making this an economical alternative.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark appearance. Early handles were often handcrafted from black bog wood, with blades darkening over time due to use and exposure.
Another theory suggests that the name comes from the concealed nature of this weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking when donning Highland attire, indicating that the wearer is among friends and poses no threat.
It’s important to note that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be a weapon and should not be considered as such!
