SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Discover the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle. This exquisite piece can be customized with your Clan crest, crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

Measuring 7.5 inches in length and 1.375 inches in width, this newly crafted Sgian Dubh boasts a stainless steel blade along with nickel silver-plated fittings. At the top, you can choose from a selection of synthetic stones in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

The Clan crest is beautifully framed by a detailed belt and buckle motif, which showcases your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, Clan chiefs would present their crest to their clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan affiliation. Each Sgian Dubh is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Note that this item is made to order and typically takes just a few days to complete. We offer every Clan, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is expertly crafted, please be aware that the handle and sheath are made from resin, while the fittings are plated. In contrast, a genuine vintage Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can cost over $1,000, making this piece an economical choice.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, meaning "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark appearance—historically, handles were often carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken over time with use. Another theory suggests that its name is linked to the concealed nature of this weapon; traditionally, it is worn in plain sight at the top of the stocking while dressed in Highland attire, signaling to others that the wearer is among friends and poses no threat. It is important to clarify that the Sgian Dubh is not, and should not be regarded as, a weapon!

Our company has proudly specialized in Scottish Clan crests for over four decades, and we are thrilled to now create Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our first customers.
