SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife characterized by its striking black handle, now available adorned with your unique Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.
This newly designed Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, featuring a robust stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. At the top, choose from a captivating imitation topaz, a sapphire blue, or an emerald green synthetic stone, adding a touch of elegance to this remarkable piece.
The Clan crest is encircled by an intricate belt and buckle design, elegantly inscribed with your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, Clan chiefs would present their crest to clansmen as a symbol of allegiance and connection to their heritage. Each Sgian Dubh is meticulously handcrafted with exceptional detail in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Please note that this item is custom-made to order and typically takes only a few days to complete. All Clans are available, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is constructed with a sturdy handle and sheath made from a resin material, the fittings are plated for durability. In contrast, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can fetch over $1,000. This model is designed to be an economical choice without compromising on quality.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates from Gaelic to "Black Knife," is believed to have originated due to the knife's dark aesthetic; early versions often featured handles carved from black bog wood, with blades that darkened over time through use. Another theory suggests it reflects the weapon's easily concealable nature, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking in Highland attire, symbolizing that the wearer is among friends and harbors no malicious intent. Importantly, the Sgian Dubh is not considered a weapon!
With over forty years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company proudly crafts Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our very first customers, continuing a cherished tradition of quality and craftsmanship.
