SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife characterized by its striking black handle, now available with your Clan crest beautifully mounted in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

This brand-new Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, featuring a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. At the top, you can choose from stunning synthetic stones in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by an intricately designed belt and buckle, showcasing your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present this crest to his clansmen, symbolizing loyalty and allegiance to the Clan. Each Sgian Dubh is meticulously handcrafted, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please note that this item is made to order, typically taking just a few days for completion. We offer designs for every Clan, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is well-crafted, it features a handle and sheath made from resin materials, and the fittings are plated. For comparison, an authentic antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000, making this an economical yet high-quality option.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is thought to derive its name from its dark appearance—historically, handles were often hand-carved from black bog wood, while the blade darkened with use over time. Another theory suggests that the name reflects the weapon’s easily concealed nature, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking when adorned in Highland attire, signifying friendship and good intentions. It's important to note that the Sgian Dubh is not intended to be viewed as a weapon.
