This stunning Sgian Dubh, also known as the traditional Scottish black-handled knife, can be customized with your Clan crest in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver. We offer designs for all Clans. Being our premium Sgian Dubh model, it is meticulously constructed with a resin handle and sheath complemented by plated metal fittings. While an antique genuine Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can cost over $1,000, we provide these exceptional pieces at a more accessible price—feel free to inquire for details.

Measuring 7 1/2” (190 mm) in length and 1 3/8” (35 mm) in width, this Sgian Dubh features a durable stainless steel blade and nickel silver plated fittings. Choose from a stunning glass stone on the top, available in blue sapphire, emerald green, or purple amethyst when placing your order.

The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a detailed belt and buckle design, featuring your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Each piece is exquisitely handcrafted with high precision in sterling silver, and the Clan Crest measures 11/16" (19.5 mm) in diameter. Historically, the chief of a Clan would present his crest to his clansmen, symbolizing their allegiance and connection to the Clan.

Please be aware that this item is made to order, requiring a few days for completion. We cater to every Clan, ensuring a personalized touch for each customer.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"

The term Sgian Dubh, derived from Gaelic meaning "Black Knife," likely comes from the knife's dark appearance—early handles were often hand-carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with use over time. Another theory suggests its name relates to the concealed nature of the weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking in Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and means no harm. It is essential to remember that the Sgian Dubh is not, nor should it be regarded as a weapon!

With over 43 years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company is proud to create Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our first customers.
