SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Discover the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife characterized by its striking black handle, now personalized with your Clan crest available in both lead-free pewter and fine sterling silver.

This exquisite Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, featuring a durable stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver-plated fittings. The knife is adorned with a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green, adding a touch of sophistication.

Your Clan crest is beautifully encircled by an intricate belt and buckle motif, with your clan motto proudly displayed in raised relief. Historically, this crest was gifted by the Clan chief to signify loyalty and allegiance among clansmen. Each Sgian Dubh is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest itself measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please be aware that this item is made to order and typically ships within a few days. We offer every Clan, so to customize your order, simply include your Clan name in the comment section during checkout. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with quality in mind, it features a resin handle and sheath, with plated fittings. In contrast, an authentic antique Sgian Dubh with solid silver fittings often commands prices exceeding $1,000. This model serves as a fantastic economy option.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The name Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to originate from the knife's dark appearance. Traditionally, handles were carved from black bog wood, and the blade would darken with usage over time. Another theory suggests the name stems from the weapon's concealed nature, highlighting the custom of displaying the Sgian Dubh atop the stocking while wearing Highland attire, symbolizing friendship and peaceful intentions.
It's important to note that the Sgian Dubh was never intended, nor should it be viewed, as a weapon!
