SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife characterized by its elegant black handle, now available with your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

This stunning Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, featuring a durable stainless steel blade complemented by beautifully nickel silver plated fittings. The knife is adorned with an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone at its apex.

Your Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a meticulously designed belt and buckle motif, which showcases your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, clan chiefs presented their crest to clan members as a mark of loyalty and affiliation. Each piece is skillfully handcrafted with intricate detail in sterling silver, and the Clan Crest measures 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that this item is made to order, typically taking less than a few days to create. All clans are represented, so be sure to specify your Clan name in the comments when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is expertly crafted, please be aware that the handle and sheath are made from resin material, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a "genuine" vintage Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can command prices over $1,000. This piece is offered as an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The name Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to stem from the knife's dark aesthetic; early handles were often carved from black bog wood, with blades that darkened over time due to wear. Another theory suggests that the name relates to the covert nature of this easily concealed weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking while donning Highland attire, signifying that the wearer is among friends and harbors no ill will. It’s important to emphasize that the Sgian Dubh is not, nor should it ever be, regarded as a weapon!

Our company has proudly specialized in Scottish Clan crests for over forty years, now crafting Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our original customers.
