SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Discover the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, beautifully adorned with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or exquisite sterling silver.
This brand-new Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, boasting a durable stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated accents. You can choose from a stunning imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone at the top for a personalized touch.
The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a meticulously designed belt and buckle motif, showcasing your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the clan would present his crest to clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and clan membership. Each piece is handcrafted with precision in sterling silver, and the Clan Crest itself measures 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
This item is made to order and typically ships within a few days. We cater to every Clan, so please include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While the Sgian Dubh is expertly crafted, please note that the handle and sheath are made of resin material, and the fittings are plated. A genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000, making this Sgian Dubh an affordable alternative.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which means "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark aesthetic—early handles were often carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with age and use.
Another theory suggests that the name reflects the weapon's concealed nature, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking when donning Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and harbors no malicious intent.
It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be regarded as a weapon!
