SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, available with your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or premium sterling silver.

This elegantly designed Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, showcasing a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver-plated fittings. At the top, you can choose from a stunning imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone for an added touch of elegance.

Surrounding the Clan crest is an intricate belt and buckle motif, elegantly inscribed with your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the Clan chief presented his crest to clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan heritage. Each Sgian Dubh is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

It’s important to note that this item is made to order and typically takes only a few days to complete. All clans are represented, so be sure to add your Clan name in the comments section during your order process. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with care, the handle and sheath are composed of resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, an authentic antique Sgian Dubh with solid silver fittings can exceed $1,000.00, making this an economical option.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, translating to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, likely derives from the knife's dark aesthetics—historically, handles were often carved from black bog wood, and blades would darken with age and use. Another theory suggests its name comes from the weapon's concealed nature—traditionally, the Sgian Dubh is worn visibly atop the stocking in Highland dress, signifying friendship and good intentions. It is essential to understand that the Sgian Dubh is not considered a weapon.

With over forty years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company proudly creates Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our original customers.
