SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a sleek black handle, beautifully adorned with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or luxurious sterling silver.

This striking Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, boasting a durable stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The top of the knife is embellished with a choice of synthetic stones, including imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green, adding a touch of elegance.

Your Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a detailed belt and buckle motif, featuring your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present this crest to his followers as a symbol of loyalty and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with high attention to detail in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that this item is made to order and typically takes only a few days to prepare. We cater to every Clan, so please specify your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is skillfully crafted, please be aware that the handle and sheath are made from resin material, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a traditional Sgian Dubh with genuine sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000.00; this version offers a more economical choice.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, translating to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark aesthetic—historically, handles were hand-carved from black bog wood and the blades would darken with age and use. Another theory suggests that the name reflects the concealed nature of the weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking while dressed in Highland attire, signaling to others that its bearer is among friends and harbors no ill will. It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh should not be regarded as a weapon.
