SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, available with your Clan crest beautifully mounted in lead-free pewter or premium sterling silver.

This stunning Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, crafted with a durable stainless steel blade and adorned with nickel silver plated components. The top showcases a choice of an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone, adding a touch of elegance.

Your Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a detailed belt and buckle design, which features your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Historically, the Clan chief would present his crest to loyal clansmen as a mark of allegiance and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in high detail from sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please be aware that this item is made to order, typically within just a few days. We offer every Clan, so to personalize your special order, simply include your Clan name in the comments section during checkout. While this Sgian Dubh is expertly crafted, please note that the handle and sheath are made from resin material, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a "genuine" antique Sgian Dubh with solid silver fittings can exceed $1,000.00; this model is designed to be more accessible.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, meaning "Black Knife" in Gaelic, likely stems from its dark appearance—historically, handles were carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with age and usage. Another theory suggests it refers to the weapon's concealed nature; thus, it became customary to display the Sgian Dubh on top of the stocking when wearing Highland attire, symbolizing that the wearer is among friends and bears no malicious intent.
It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be, and should not be regarded as, a weapon!
