SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
This exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife with a striking black handle, can be customized with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.
Measuring 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, this brand new Sgian Dubh features a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver-plated fittings. The knife is adorned with a choice of synthetic stones: imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green, adding a touch of elegance.
Your Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a meticulously designed belt and buckle motif, where your clan motto is inscribed in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present their crest to loyal clansmen as a symbol of allegiance and Clan identity. Each Sgian Dubh is artisan-crafted with remarkable detail in sterling silver, featuring a Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Please be aware that this item is made to order, typically within a few days. We offer every Clan, so to finalize your special request, kindly include your Clan name in the comments section during the ordering process. While this Sgian Dubh is expertly constructed, its handle and sheath are made from resin, with plated fittings. A genuine antique Sgian Dubh with solid silver fittings can exceed $1,000, making this an economical alternative.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to stem from the knife's dark aesthetic—historically, handles were hand-carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with age and use.
Another theory suggests that the name arose from the concealed nature of this weapon, traditionally worn in a visible position at the top of the stocking while donning Highland attire, signifying that the wearer is among friends and bears no malicious intent.
It’s important to note that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be a weapon and should not be regarded as such!
