Custom Made for Your Clan

We offer all Clan designs, made to order in just a few days. Please include your Clan name in the order comments for customization. While this is a high-quality piece, note that the handle and sheath are resin with plated fittings—making it an affordable alternative to antique Sgian Dubhs with sterling silver fittings, which can cost over $1,000.

The Origin of the Sgian Dubh

The term Sgian Dubh (Gaelic for “Black Knife”) likely originates from its dark appearance, as traditional handles were carved from black bog wood and blades darkened over time. Another theory links the name to the knife’s concealed nature, leading to the custom of wearing it openly in the stocking top—signifying friendship and peaceful intent.

Importantly, the Sgian Dubh is a symbolic accessory, not a weapon.
