SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Discover the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, beautifully adorned with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

This exquisite Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, boasting a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The top showcases a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green, adding a touch of color to this timeless piece.

Encircled by a meticulously designed belt and buckle motif, the Clan crest is further enhanced with your clan motto elegantly inscribed in raised relief. Historically, the Clan chief would bestow his crest upon clansmen as a mark of loyalty and Clan affiliation. Each Sgian Dubh is carefully handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that this item is made to order, typically within a few days. We cater to every Clan, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with quality in mind, the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can command prices exceeding $1,000, making this piece an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, derived from Gaelic meaning "Black Knife," is thought to originate from the knife's dark appearance; early handles were often crafted from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with age and usage. Another theory suggests that its name reflects the concealed nature of the weapon, emphasizing the tradition of displaying the Sgian Dubh openly atop the stocking while dressed in Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and bears no malice. It's important to remember that the Sgian Dubh is not intended to be perceived as a weapon!
