SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
This stunning Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife characterized by its black handle, can be customized with your Clan crest made from lead-free pewter or exquisite sterling silver.
Measuring 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, this brand new Sgian Dubh features a durable stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The top of the knife is adorned with your choice of an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone.
The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a finely crafted belt and buckle design, which prominently displays your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of each Clan bestowed his crest upon his clansmen, symbolizing loyalty and Clan affiliation. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with high attention to detail in sterling silver, and the Clan Crest itself measures 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
It's important to note that this item is made to order, with a quick turnaround of just a few days. We offer every Clan for customization. To finalize your order, please include your Clan name in the comments section. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with care, its handle and sheath are made from resin material, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a "genuine" vintage Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings typically retails for over $1,000.00. This model serves as an economical option.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The name Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark exterior; early versions featured handles often carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with time and use. Another theory suggests that it gained its name from the concealed nature of the weapon, as it was traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking while dressed in Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and harbors no harmful intentions. It is crucial to understand that the Sgian Dubh is not, and should not be regarded as, a weapon!
Our company has proudly specialized in Scottish Clan crests for over four decades, now creating Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our original customers.
