Scottish Clan Crest Sgian Dubh – Traditional Highland Knife

Celebrate Scottish tradition with the Scottish Clan Crest Sgian Dubh, a finely crafted ceremonial knife featuring a sleek black handle adorned with your Clan crest in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

Measuring 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, this Sgian Dubh features a stainless steel blade with nickel silver plated fittings. The top is finished with your choice of synthetic stoneimitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green—to add a distinctive personal touch.

Your Clan crest, measuring 11/16" (19.5 mm), is encircled by the traditional belt and buckle design, with your Clan motto engraved in raised relief lettering. Historically, Clan chiefs presented such crests to their clansmen as a mark of loyalty, heritage, and unity.

Each Sgian Dubh is custom made, typically completed in just a few days. All Clans are available—simply include your Clan name in the comments section at checkout. Please note: while the handle and sheath are resin and the fittings plated, this model offers an affordable alternative to antique sterling silver Sgian Dubhs, which can exceed $1,000.

The Origin of the Sgian Dubh
The Gaelic term Sgian Dubh translates to “Black Knife.” The name may refer to the traditional dark appearance—historically carved from black bog wood with blades that darkened over time—or to its once-concealed nature as a weapon. Worn visibly at the top of the stocking with Highland dress, the Sgian Dubh traditionally indicated that the bearer was among friends and carried no ill intent. Today, it is a ceremonial accessory, not a weapon.

With over forty years of craftsmanship, our company continues to create Scottish Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our earliest customers. The Sgian Dubh remains a symbol of heritage, pride, and tradition.
