SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Discover the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, beautifully adorned with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

This stunning Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, equipped with a stainless steel blade and nickel silver plated fittings. The knife's top is embellished with a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

Your Clan crest is artistically encircled by a detailed belt and buckle design, showcasing your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan bestowed this crest upon his clansmen as a symbol of their loyalty and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in exquisite detail from sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please note that this item is made to order and typically takes only a few days to complete. Every Clan option is available, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with quality in mind, its handle and sheath are made from resin material, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a "genuine" vintage Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings often sells for over $1,000. This Sgian Dubh offers an economical yet stylish alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, translating to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark appearance. Historically, the handles were hand-carved from black bog wood, and the blade would darken over time through use. Another theory suggests that its name derives from its discreet and potentially sinister nature as a concealed weapon. This is why it has become customary to display the Sgian Dubh on top of the stocking when wearing Highland attire, signaling to others that its wearer is among friends and bears no ill will. It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be regarded as a weapon!
