SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, available with your Clan crest elegantly mounted in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

This brand new Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, crafted with a stainless steel blade and nickel silver plated fittings. The top is adorned with a choice of synthetic stones in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green for a touch of elegance.

The Clan crest is beautifully encircled by a detailed belt and buckle motif, showcasing your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present this crest to his clansmen, symbolizing loyalty and Clan affiliation. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16 inch (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that this item is made to order, but it typically takes just a few days to complete. We cater to every Clan, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is expertly crafted, please be aware that the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000.00; this model offers an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, likely stems from the knife's dark appearance—early versions featured handles carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with use over time. Another theory posits that the name reflects the concealed nature of this weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking during Highland attire, indicating that the wearer is among friends and poses no threat. It is essential to note that the Sgian Dubh is not considered a weapon.

With over forty years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company proudly creates Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our first customers, continuing a cherished tradition.
