The Origin of the Sgian Dubh:
The name Sgian Dubh (Gaelic for Black Knife) likely derives from its dark appearance—with early handles carved from black bog wood—or from its concealed nature. In Highland tradition, it is worn visibly in the stocking, symbolizing friendship and goodwill. It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh is not a weapon, but a ceremonial and symbolic accessory.

With over 43 years of experience in Scottish Clan crest craftsmanship, we proudly create these treasured pieces for the children and grandchildren of our original customers, carrying forward a proud legacy.
