SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife characterized by its elegant black handle, uniquely adorned with your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or luxurious sterling silver.

This brand-new Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, featuring a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The knife's top is embellished with a choice of synthetic stones in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

Your Clan crest is beautifully encircled by a detailed belt and buckle motif, which showcases your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present this crest to his clansmen, symbolizing loyalty and Clan affiliation. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16 inch (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that this item is custom-made, typically taking just a few days to complete. We offer every Clan option available. To personalize your order, please add your Clan name in the comment section during checkout. While this Sgian Dubh is expertly crafted, please be aware that the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a genuine vintage Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000, making this Sgian Dubh an economical choice.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, meaning "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to derive from the knife's dark appearance—early handles were often carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with age and usage. Another theory suggests that the name comes from the concealed nature of the weapon, prompting the tradition of wearing the Sgian Dubh visibly at the top of the stocking when dressed in Highland attire, indicating the wearer is among friends and bears no ill will. It is essential to clarify that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be categorized as a weapon!
