SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, now available with your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

This stunning Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, showcasing a durable stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. Choose from a captivating imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone adorning the top.

Surrounding the Clan crest is a meticulously detailed belt and buckle design, elegantly inscribed with your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present his crest to his clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan affiliation. Each piece is handcrafted with precision in sterling silver, and the Clan Crest measures 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that this item is made to order, typically taking just a few days to complete. We cater to every Clan, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comment section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is expertly constructed, please be aware that the handle and sheath are composed of a resin material, with the fittings being plated. In contrast, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can fetch over $1,000.00; this model offers an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, likely derives from the knife's dark appearance. Historically, early handles were crafted from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with use and age. Another theory suggests that the name stems from the concealed nature of the weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly on the top of the stocking while donning Highland attire, signifying that the wearer is among friends and bears no ill intentions.
It is essential to clarify that the Sgian Dubh is not, nor should it ever be regarded as, a weapon!
