This exceptional Sgian Dubh is crafted by The Sgian Dubh Company in Scotland, recognized as the finest quality option available today. Each piece is presented in a luxurious blue box, proudly labeled "Made in Scotland."

Adorned with your Clan crest in lead-free pewter or exquisite sterling silver, this traditional black-handled knife is a stunning representation of Scottish heritage. Available for all Clans, this premium Sgian Dubh features a robust construction, with the handle and sheath made from durable resin and complemented by plated metal fittings. While antique versions with sterling silver fittings can fetch over $1,000, our offerings provide an accessible yet high-quality alternative.

This brand-new Sgian Dubh measures 7 1/2” (190 mm) in length and 1 3/8” (35 mm) in width, featuring a stainless steel blade and elegant nickel silver plated fittings. The top is adorned with a choice of imitation glass stones in blue sapphire, emerald green, or purple amethyst—simply select your preferred color when placing your order.

The Clan crest is beautifully encircled by a detailed belt and buckle design, showcasing your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with attention to detail in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5 mm) in diameter. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present this crest to his clansmen, symbolizing loyalty and Clan affiliation.

It’s important to note that this item is made to order, requiring a few days for creation. All Clans are available for customization.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"

The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, likely originates from the dark appearance of the knife—early handles were often hand-carved from black bog wood, resulting in a darkened blade over time. Another theory suggests that the name reflects the concealed nature of this weapon, leading to the tradition of displaying the Sgian Dubh at the top of the stocking while wearing Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and harbors no ill intentions.

It’s essential to clarify that the Sgian Dubh is not, and should not be viewed as, a weapon.
