SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle. Crafted with precision, this piece can be adorned with your specific Clan crest, available in both lead-free pewter and fine sterling silver.
This remarkable Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, showcasing a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The top of the knife is embellished with your choice of an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone.
Your Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a beautifully detailed belt and buckle motif, complete with your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Historically, Clan chiefs would present their crest to loyal clansmen as a symbol of allegiance and identity. Each Sgian Dubh is meticulously handcrafted, ensuring high-quality detail in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Please be advised that this product is made to order, typically taking just a few days to complete. We cater to all Clans, so simply include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with care, please note that the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000, making this model an economical choice.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the dark coloration of the knife itself—early handles were often carved from black bog wood, and the blades darkened with use and age. Another theory suggests that its name stems from its potential as a concealed weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking with Highland attire, signifying that the wearer is among friends and bears no malice. It is essential to note that the Sgian Dubh is not, has never been, and should not be regarded as a weapon!
