The top of the knife is adorned with your choice of imitation glass stone—select from blue sapphire, emerald green, or purple amethyst when placing your order.
Each Clan crest is intricately surrounded by a beautifully detailed belt and buckle design, showcasing your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Every piece is skillfully handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5 mm) in diameter. Historically, the Clan chief would present this crest to their clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan identity.
Please note that each Sgian Dubh is made to order, requiring a few days for creation. We proudly support all Clans.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, meaning "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark aesthetic. Traditionally, handles were handcrafted from black bog wood, and blades would darken over time through use and wear. Another theory suggests that the name references its concealed nature—hence the custom of displaying the Sgian Dubh above the stocking while wearing Highland attire, signifying friendship and goodwill.
It is essential to emphasize that the Sgian Dubh should never be regarded as a weapon.
With over 43 years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company has proudly created Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our very first customers.
