SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

This exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife characterized by its black handle, can be beautifully personalized with your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

Measuring 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, this newly designed Sgian Dubh features a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The top is adorned with a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

Your Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a meticulously designed belt and buckle motif, which showcases your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of a Clan would bestow his crest upon his clansmen as a sign of loyalty and Clan identity. Each Sgian Dubh is handcrafted with precision in sterling silver, and the Clan Crest measures 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please note that this item is made to order, typically requiring less than a few days for completion. We offer customization for every Clan. To personalize your order, simply include your Clan name in the comments section during checkout. Although this Sgian Dubh is well-crafted, its handle and sheath are made from resin, with plated fittings. A genuine vintage Sgian Dubh featuring sterling silver fittings often retails for over $1,000.00, making this an economical choice.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark appearance; early handles were commonly carved from black bog wood, and blades darkened with age and use. Another theory suggests that its name comes from the concealed nature of this weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking while donning Highland dress, signaling that the wearer is among friends and harbors no ill intentions. It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh should not be regarded as a weapon.

With over forty years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company proudly crafts Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our very first customers.
