SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, customizable with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or premium sterling silver.

This finely designed Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, boasting a durable stainless steel blade accompanied by nickel silver-plated fittings. Adorning the top of the knife is a choice of an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone, adding a touch of elegance.

The Clan crest is beautifully encircled by an intricate belt and buckle motif, which showcases your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would bestow his crest upon clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan allegiance. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that this item is made to order, typically taking just a few days to complete. We cater to every Clan, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with care, the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a "genuine" antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can fetch over $1,000. This offering provides an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The name Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, likely stems from the knife's dark aesthetic—historically, handles were often carved from black bog wood, while the blade would darken with age and use. Another theory suggests that the name refers to the hidden nature of this easily concealed weapon. Traditionally, it is worn visibly at the top of the stocking while donning Highland attire, signifying that the wearer is among friends and harbors no ill intentions.
It is important to emphasize that the Sgian Dubh should never be regarded as a weapon!
