SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Discover the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a distinctive black handle, beautifully adorned with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or premium sterling silver.
This newly designed Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, showcasing a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The top of the knife is embellished with a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.
The Clan crest is intricately encircled by a decorative belt and buckle motif, which showcases your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present his crest to clansmen as a symbol of their loyalty and connection to the Clan. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted with exceptional detail in sterling silver, and the Clan Crest itself measures 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.
Please be aware that this item is made to order, but production takes only a few days. We offer crests for every Clan. To finalize your order, simply provide your Clan name in the comments section when checking out. While this Sgian Dubh is constructed with high quality, please note that the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh featuring sterling silver fittings typically exceeds $1,000. This model serves as an economical alternative.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, translating to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark appearance, as early handles were often crafted from black bog wood and the blades would darken with use and age.
Another theory suggests that the name derives from the concealed nature of this weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn visibly at the top of the stocking when donning Highland attire, signaling that the wearer is among friends and harbors no malicious intent.
It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be regarded as a weapon!
