SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Discover the elegance of the Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, personalized with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

This exquisite Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, boasting a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The top is adorned with a choice of synthetic stones in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a detailed belt and buckle motif, which includes your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Historically, the Clan chief would present this crest to his clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted from high-quality sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please be aware that this item is made to order and typically takes just a few days to complete. We offer every Clan, so to finalize your special order, please include your Clan name in the comments section during checkout. While this Sgian Dubh is well-crafted, note that the handle and sheath are made from a resin material, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, an authentic vintage Sgian Dubh featuring solid silver fittings can fetch prices exceeding $1,000.00, making this piece an economical choice.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark aesthetic—early handles were often intricately carved from black bog wood, and the blades would darken with use and age.
Another theory suggests that the name derives from the concealed nature of this weapon, which is why it is customarily worn visibly at the top of the stocking when dressed in Highland attire, signifying that the wearer is among friends and holds no harmful intent.
It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be a weapon, nor should it be regarded as such!
