SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Discover the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a black handle, uniquely customized with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

This stunning Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, boasting a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. At the top, you can choose from an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone to enhance its elegance.

The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by an intricate belt and buckle design, which proudly displays your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present this crest to his clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and clan affiliation. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please be aware that this item is made to order, typically taking just a few days to complete. We cater to every Clan, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comments section during your order. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with care, note that the handle and sheath are made of resin material, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh featuring sterling silver fittings can fetch over $1,000.00, making this piece an economical choice.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to “Black Knife” in Gaelic, is believed to stem from the dark appearance of the knife. Traditionally, early handles were intricately carved from black bog wood, while the blade would darken with use and age.
Another theory suggests that the name comes from the dark and concealed nature of this weapon, which is why it is customarily worn in plain sight atop the stocking while dressed in Highland attire, symbolizing that the wearer holds no ill intent and is among friends.
It is essential to clarify that the Sgian Dubh is not considered a weapon!
