SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, customizable with your Clan crest crafted from lead-free pewter or luxurious sterling silver.

This newly designed Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, equipped with a stainless steel blade and fittings plated in nickel silver. The top of the knife is adorned with your choice of an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone, adding a touch of elegance.

Encircling the Clan crest is a meticulously detailed belt and buckle design, which displays your clan motto in beautifully raised relief lettering. Historically, Clan chiefs would present their crest to clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and affiliation. Each piece is expertly handcrafted with high precision in sterling silver, featuring a Clan Crest that measures 11/16 inch (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that this item is made to order and typically ships within a few days. All Clans are available, so please include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is expertly constructed, the handle and sheath are made from resin material, and the fittings are plated. A genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000, making this piece an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The name Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark appearance. Early handles were often handcrafted from black bog wood, and the blade would darken over time due to use and age.
Another theory suggests that the name derives from the knife's potential as a concealed weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn in plain view on the top of the stocking while dressed in Highland attire, symbolizing the wearer's friendly intentions.
It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh was never intended to be, nor should it be regarded as, a weapon!
