SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

This exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife with a black handle, is available with your Clan crest elegantly mounted in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

Measuring 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, this brand-new Sgian Dubh features a stainless steel blade and nickel silver-plated fittings. The top of the knife is adorned with a synthetic stone available in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

Your Clan crest is beautifully framed by an intricate belt and buckle design, featuring your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present the crest to his clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please be aware that this item is made to order and typically takes just a few days to be completed. All Clans are available, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. This Sgian Dubh is crafted with great attention to detail, though the handle and sheath are made from resin material, and the fittings are plated. For reference, an authentic old sgian dubh with sterling silver fittings can retail for over $1,000.00, making this piece an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The origins of the term Sgian Dubh, which translates to "Black Knife" in Gaelic, are believed to stem from the knife's dark appearance—historically, handles were often carved from black bog wood and blades would darken with age and use.
Another theory suggests that it refers to the concealed nature of this weapon, hence the tradition of wearing the Sgian Dubh visibly at the top of the stocking while donning Highland attire, signifying that the wearer is among friends and harbors no ill will.
It is important to note that the Sgian Dubh should not be regarded as a weapon!
