SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle, now available with your Clan crest crafted in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

This stunning Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, showcasing a durable stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The knife’s top is adorned with a choice of synthetic stones, including imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by an intricate belt and buckle design, which prominently displays your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, the chief of the Clan would present his crest to his clansmen as a mark of loyalty and Clan identity. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in high detail using sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Kindly note that this item is made to order, typically taking just a few days to complete. All Clans are available, so please include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted with care, the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. For reference, a “genuine” antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000. Our version offers an economical alternative.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, translated from Gaelic as "Black Knife," is believed to have originated from the dark hue of the knife itself—historically, the handles were crafted from black bog wood, and the blades darkened with use and age.
An alternative theory suggests that the name stems from the knife's potential as a concealed weapon—hence the tradition of wearing the Sgian Dubh visibly at the top of the stocking while donning Highland attire, indicating that the wearer is among friends and harbors no ill intentions.
It is essential to understand that the Sgian Dubh is not, and should not be regarded as, a weapon!
