SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH
Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a striking black handle. This elegant piece can be customized with your Clan crest, crafted from lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver to suit your heritage.
Measuring 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, this brand-new Sgian Dubh boasts a stainless steel blade complemented by nickel silver plated fittings. The top of the knife is adorned with your choice of a stunning synthetic stone in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.
The Clan crest is elegantly encircled by a meticulously designed belt and buckle motif, inscribed with your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, Clan chiefs presented their crests to loyal clansmen as a symbol of allegiance and Clan identity. Each piece is skillfully handcrafted with exceptional detail in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16 inches (19.5mm) in diameter.
Please note that this item is made to order, typically completed within just a few days. We accommodate every Clan, so be sure to include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is crafted to be durable, please keep in mind that the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. For reference, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000, making this piece an economical choice.
THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term "Sgian Dubh," which translates from Gaelic to "Black Knife," is believed to have originated from the knife's dark appearance. Historically, handles were carved from black bog wood, and the blades darkened with age and use. Another theory suggests that the name reflects the weapon's easily concealed nature, which is why it is traditionally worn in the stocking, displayed openly to signify friendship and goodwill. Importantly, the Sgian Dubh is not intended to be viewed as a weapon.
With over forty years of experience in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company is proud to provide Clan jewelry that resonates with the children and grandchildren of our original customers.
