We offer designs for all clans, making this our top-tier sgian dubh. The craftsmanship features a durable handle and sheath made from resin, complemented by plated metal fittings. While authentic antique sgian dubhs with sterling silver fittings can exceed $1,000, we provide comparable quality at a much more accessible price.

Each Clan crest is beautifully encircled by a detailed belt and buckle motif, with your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, the Clan Crest measures 11/16 inches (19.5 mm) in diameter. Historically, the Clan chief would bestow his crest upon clansmen as a symbol of loyalty and Clan allegiance.

Please keep in mind that this item is made to order, requiring a few days for creation. All Clans are available for customization.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"

The term Sgian Dubh, which translates from Gaelic to "Black Knife," has ancient roots, likely stemming from the knife's dark aesthetic—early versions often featured handles carved from black bog wood, while the blades would darken over time with use. Another theory suggests that its name derives from its association with being a concealed weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn in plain sight atop the stocking when donning Highland attire, signifying that the wearer is among friends and bears no harmful intent. Importantly, the Sgian Dubh is not, and should not be regarded as, a weapon.

Our company has been a trusted name in Scottish Clan crest craftsmanship for over 43 years, creating cherished Clan jewellery for the children and grandchildren of our very first customers.
