SCOTTISH CLAN CREST SGIAN DUBH

Introducing the exquisite Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife featuring a stunning black handle, now customizable with your Clan crest in both lead-free pewter and fine sterling silver. This piece is not just a knife; it's a representation of your heritage.

This newly crafted Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2 inches in length and 1-3/8 inches in width, boasting a durable stainless steel blade accompanied by nickel silver plated fittings. The knife's top is adorned with your choice of an imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green synthetic stone, adding a touch of elegance to its design.

The Clan crest is beautifully encircled by an intricate belt and buckle motif, featuring your clan motto in raised relief lettering. Historically, Clan chiefs would bestow their crest upon clansmen as a mark of loyalty and Clan affiliation. Each Sgian Dubh is meticulously handcrafted with high attention to detail, showcasing a Clan Crest that is 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please note that this item is made to order, with a quick turnaround of just a few days. Every Clan is available for customization. To finalize your special order, simply include your Clan name in the comments section when placing your order. While this Sgian Dubh is constructed with high-quality materials, its handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. In contrast, an authentic antique Sgian Dubh featuring solid sterling silver fittings can cost over $1,000. This Sgian Dubh offers an economical alternative without compromising on charm.

THE ORIGIN OF THE "SGIAN DUBH"
The term Sgian Dubh, which translates to Black Knife in Gaelic, is believed to have originated from the knife's dark aesthetic. Historically, the handles were often carved from black bog wood, while the blades darkened with usage and age. Another theory suggests that its name stems from the concealed nature of this knife, a weapon meant to be hidden. As a result, it became customary to wear the Sgian Dubh visibly at the top of the stocking when donning Highland attire, signaling trust and goodwill among friends. It is essential to remember that the Sgian Dubh is not, and should not be perceived as, a weapon!
