Sgian Dubh

Discover unparalleled craftsmanship with this exquisite Sgian Dubh, meticulously crafted by The Sgian Dubh Company in Scotland. Renowned for its superior quality, each Sgian Dubh is elegantly presented in a premium blue box, proudly labeled "Made in Scotland."

This elegant Sgian Dubh showcases a classic black handle and can be personalized with your Clan crest in either lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver. As our premium model, it features a durable resin handle and sheath, complemented by plated metal fittings. For reference, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings may exceed $1,000.00; please reach out if you’re interested in exploring those options.

Measuring 7 1/2” (190 mm) in length and 1 3/8” (35 mm) in width, this Sgian Dubh boasts a stainless steel blade and nickel silver-plated fittings. The top is beautifully embellished with a selection of imitation glass stones in colors such as blue sapphire, emerald green, or purple amethyst—please indicate your preferred choice when placing your order.

The Clan crest is intricately set against a detailed belt and buckle motif, with your Clan motto elegantly inscribed in raised relief lettering. Every piece is carefully handcrafted, featuring a Clan Crest that measures 11/16" (19.5 mm) in diameter. Traditionally, Clan chiefs would bestow their crests upon Clansmen as tokens of loyalty and Clan affiliation.

Kindly note that this item is made to order and typically requires a few days for completion. We proudly offer Sgian Dubhs for every Clan.

The Origin of the Sgian Dubh
The term "Sgian Dubh," which translates from Gaelic to "Black Knife," is likely derived from the knife's dark aesthetic, as early handles were crafted from black bog wood and blades would darken with time and use. An alternative interpretation points to the concealed nature of the weapon, traditionally worn in the stocking as a sign of friendship and good intentions. The Sgian Dubh is designed to serve as a symbol rather than a weapon.

For over 43 years, our company has been committed to providing high-quality Scottish Clan crest products, now creating Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our original customers.
