This stunning Sgian Dubh, a traditional Scottish knife with a black handle, is available featuring your Clan crest in lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver.

The new Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, with a stainless steel blade and nickel silver-plated fittings. The top is adorned with a synthetic stone in imitation topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.

The Clan Crest is surrounded by an intricately designed belt and buckle motif, with your Clan motto inscribed in raised relief. Historically, the Clan chief would present the crest to his Clansmen as a mark of loyalty and Clan affiliation. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, with the Clan Crest measuring 11/16" (19.5mm) in diameter.

Please note that while this item is made to order, it typically takes only a few days to complete. Crests for all Clans are available. To personalize your order, include your Clan name in the comment section when placing your order. This Sgian Dubh is well-crafted, though the handle and sheath are made from resin, and the fittings are plated. A "genuine" Sgian Dubh with solid silver fittings can cost over $1,000.00, making this an economical choice.

The Origin of the Sgian Dubh

The name "Sgian Dubh" (Gaelic for Black Knife) is thought to refer to the knife's dark appearance—early handles were often carved from black bog wood and the blade would darken with use and age. Another theory suggests that the name comes from the knife's dark or sinister nature as a concealed weapon, which is why it is traditionally worn in the top of the stocking in Highland attire to signal that the wearer is among friends and means no harm. The Sgian Dubh is not, and should not be considered, a weapon!

Our company has been dedicated to Scottish Clan crests for over forty years, and we are now crafting Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our first customers.
