This brand-new Sgian Dubh measures 7-1/2” in length and 1-3/8” in width, featuring a stainless steel blade and nickel silver-plated fittings. The top is adorned with an imitation gemstone, available in topaz, sapphire blue, or emerald green.
The Clan Crest is beautifully surrounded by a detailed belt and buckle design, with your Clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. To customize your order, simply add your Clan name in the comments section when ordering. While this Sgian Dubh is a well-crafted and economical model with resin handle and sheath and plated fittings, a genuine antique Sgian Dubh with sterling silver fittings can sell for over $1,000.
The Origin of the Sgian Dubh:
The name "Sgian Dubh" (Gaelic for "Black Knife") is thought to reference the knife's dark appearance—early handles were often made from black bog wood, and the blade would darken with use. Another theory suggests it relates to the knife’s concealed nature, traditionally worn in the top of the stocking to signify that its wearer is among friends and has no ill intent. Note that the Sgian Dubh is a traditional accessory, not a weapon.
