Sgian Dubh
Produced by The Sgian Dubh Company in Scotland, this sgian dubh epitomizes the highest standards of craftsmanship in contemporary Scottish knives. Each knife is elegantly packaged in a premium blue box, proudly labeled "Made in Scotland."
This stunning sgian dubh showcases a traditional black handle and can be personalized with your Clan crest, available in either lead-free pewter or fine sterling silver. Suitable for all Clans, this luxurious sgian dubh stands out for its exceptional artistry. The handle and sheath are crafted from robust resin, enhanced with metal fittings. While antique genuine sgian dubhs featuring sterling silver fittings can cost over $1,000, our offering presents remarkable value.
Measuring 7 1/2” (190 mm) in length and 1 3/8” (35 mm) in width, the new sgian dubh is designed with a stainless steel blade and nickel silver-plated fittings. When placing your order, you can select from imitation glass stones in blue sapphire, emerald green, or purple amethyst to adorn the top of the handle.
Your Clan crest is beautifully surrounded by a detailed belt and buckle design, complete with your clan motto inscribed in raised relief lettering. Each crest is meticulously handcrafted in sterling silver, boasting a diameter of 11/16" (19.5 mm). Traditionally, the Clan chief would present the crest to his clansmen as a token of loyalty and Clan affiliation.
Please be aware that each sgian dubh is made to order, requiring a few days for its creation. All Clan options are available for customization.
The History of the Sgian Dubh
The term "Sgian Dubh," which translates from Gaelic to "Black Knife," likely refers to the knife's dark hue—early handles were commonly carved from black bog wood, and the blade would darken over time with usage and age. Alternatively, it may signify the knife's hidden nature, traditionally worn at the top of the stocking as a gesture of friendship and peace. The Sgian Dubh is not a weapon and should never be regarded as one.
With over 43 years of expertise in the Scottish Clan crest industry, our company has evolved to create Clan jewelry for the children and grandchildren of our original clientele.
